- CommentAI: Intelligent Code Commentary

3rd business proposal

Objective of the study:

The business aims to develop a Language Learning Model (LLM) that

provides a fast and efficient way to comment on the code base, making it easier
for developers to understand and work with existing codebases for a wide
range of programming languages. We also plan on offering free and paid
alternatives for the enthusiasts, but distribute the software with a price.
3rd business proposal

Scope and Limitation:

- Target audience: Software developers, worldwide.
- Target Platforms: Github, VSCode extension.

- Intended languages to be supported are: C, C++, Python, Rust, Zig, Assembly,

PHP, SQL, Go, Ruby, R, Haskell, VBscript, HTML/CSS, Javascript, Typescript,
Java, Kotlin, and C#.
3rd business proposal

Gap analysis
Key areas:
- AI
- Free and Open Source Software (FOSS)
3rd business proposal
Gap Analysis:
Desired features:
- An AI assistant that provides comments and/or overview of what’s the purpose of a
block of code/s; seeing its functionality, parameters, and return value.

- With just one shortcut key or a click, see the options on how the AI will comment on
the code. Either explaining the relationship of each code block, how it performs
things, and what things does this code do.

- Have its users also use the AI model through the use of our cloud computers
(servers) instead of having them run the model with their local machine.
3rd business proposal
Gap Analysis:
Desired status-quo:
- Customers can differentiate the product from potential AI-powered code assistant competitors like
GitHub Copilot and ChatGPT by focusing specifically on code summarization and documentation.

- Make it FOSS as much as possible.

- Able to earn money through:

- Selling binaries (compiled source code)
- Donations
- Hosting AI models and charge through every API calls.
3rd business proposal

Gap Analysis:
Status-quo (competitors):
➔ Multiple potential competitors:
◆ Github Copilot (Microsoft)
◆ ChatGPT (OpenAI)
◆ Llama (Meta)
◆ Claude 3 (Anthropic’s)
◆ Gemini / Bard (Google)
3rd business proposal

Gap Analysis:
Status-quo (competitors):
➔ Only one concrete competitor exist for auto-documenting a code base [1]. The
features include as stated in its product description:
◆ “Simply provide the path-to-file you wish to document, and AutoDoc-
ChatGPT will generate a detailed description of its functionality,
parameters, and return values in natural language.”
3rd business proposal

Gap Analysis:
Status-quo (competitor’s value):
- The interface is command line based (CLI)
- FOSS
- Leverages a reverse engineered ChatGPT API (need to be connected to the
internet, also against OpenAI’s Terms of Service)
3rd business proposal

Gap Analysis:
Status-quo (our product’s value):
- There aren’t any easy ways to read an undocumented code, and so is trying to
learn the codebase.

- FOSS that also provide active service for cloud computing.

- Too little competition in developing software that can automate the description
of what the heck they are looking at (code) directly at their code editors or
IDEs.
3rd business proposal
Gap Analysis:
Make things clear:
• Product (FOSS & binary)
• Service (Cloud computing LLMs & support for the LLMs)
3rd business proposal

Gap Analysis:
Status-quo (monetization of FOSS):
- Example of FOSS company: Red Hat. They earn money by selling
“support/help in using their products.” In which the product itself literally
supports the infrastructure’s product of thousands of companies. The product
that this business proposal has only serves as a productivity tool for
developers – not much of a groundbreaking feature.
- Through Software as a Service (SaaS)
3rd business proposal

Gap Analysis:
Status-quo (monetization of FOSS):
- Tensorflow
- PyTorch
3rd business proposal

Gap Analysis:
Status-quo (monetization of FOSS):
- Most FOSS earn if they are the infrastructure itself. Also having a huge
backing.
3rd business proposal

Gap Analysis:
Status-quo (pending study):
- [To be known at the survey] People who write code prefer to read the
comments than the code themselves. And know if documentation seems
lacking or too confusing in accordance to their experiences.
3rd business proposal

Early Brief SWOT:

- Strength:
- Fast indexing of the code and generating comments accordingly.
- Support for multiple languages.
- A Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) product.

- Weakness:
- Lacks advertisements
- The product is dedicated to be a FOSS
- May lack monetization
3rd business proposal

Early Brief SWOT:

- Opportunities:
- Too little competition in developing software that can automate the
description of what the heck they are looking at (code) directly at their code
editors or IDEs.
- The LLM developed may be used for other purposes other than auto-
commenting.

- Threats:
- People will opt to instead use the ai chats to comment on their code.
- Youtube channels may publish free tutorials on how to compile the product
