A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATH

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

a. Give the addition and multiplication of variables;

b. Determine the exponents, variables, and coefficients; and
c. Answer the following activities in the end of the lesson.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Addition and Multiplication of variables
Reference: House of Math and Study.com
Materials: cartolina and marker

III. PROCEDURE

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS ACTIVITY

A. Prayer
Edrelyn:
May I call Edrelyn to lead Father God, come be with us
the prayer? today. Fill our hearts with wisdom
and our minds for learning. And
guide our teacher to give us
knowledge, Amen.
B. Greetings

Good morning, students? Good morning, Teacher.

C. Checking Attendance

Are you all present, or is We’re all present, sir.

someone absent today?

Good to hear, students.

D. Motivation

Before we start our

discussion, we will have a
warm-up activity to sharpen
our minds and
understanding. To help us
focus throughout our
lesson. So our warm-up
activity will be COMPLETE
ME, I will divide you in two
groups and solve the
problem to complete the
puzzle. Did I make myself Yes, sir.
clear?

The teacher gave the

activity sheet to the
students.
E. Discussion

What are exponents,

variables, and coefficients?

meaning of exponent?

Please read, Geoffrey. Geoffrey:

An exponent is a small number
placed to the upper right of a
base number. The exponent
represents the number of times
the base has to be multiplied by
itself. Exponents are also called
power, index or order.

Thank you, Geoffrey.

For example, 52
the base will be 5, and the
exponent will be 2 above 5.
And if we would solve it, it
will be
5· 5 ,is equals ¿ 25.

Anyone who wants to read Students raise their hand.

variables?
Yes, Jhazzmin? Jhazzmin:
Letters and symbols
Thank you; please be
seated.

Variables can be x, y, and z

or any letters from the
alphabet. Like x 3if we
simplify it will be x·x·x , the
base is x and the exponent is
3.

What about coefficient? Students raise their hand.

Yes, Menielle? Menielle:

coefficient refers to a numerical
value that appears alongside a
variable or term in an equation or
expression. It represents the
scale or proportion by which the
variable is multiplied or affects
the overall equation.
Thank you, Menielle.

2 x , the variable will be the

5

x, the 5 will be the

exponent, and 2 will be the
coefficient.

Teacher, will give some

problem examples, and after
that you will be solving
some activities. Do you
understand, class? Yes, sir.

Example:

x + x = 2x

How did we get the 2x? A little bit, sir.

even the coefficient isn’t
visible it’s value will always
be 1, do understand, class?

It’s alright we have plenty of

time to discuss our lesson,
don’t worry.

Another one, x 5 + x3 . What We don’t know, sir.

could be the possible,
answer? Any guess
students?

Okay, we will just copy the

equation, why? Because
they aren’t compatible for
each other, and why is it?

It is because their exponent

does not the same, so we
will just copy the problem
and it will be its answer.

x· x , what about this?

What will be the answer?
Any idea? Silence inside the room.

If we see a dot between

them, it is multiplication,
and if we encounter this
kind of problem, we should
remember that the
coefficient will always be 1
and its exponent. To solve
this problem we will add
their exponents and
multiply their coefficients so
the answer will be x 2.

Do you understand class? Yes, sir.

Any further question? None, sir..

If you don’t have any

questions, then can we
proceed to our activity.

Teacher prepared five Yes, sir!

questions and just raise your
hand if you wanted to
answer. Are we clear?

The teacher posted the

activity on the board.

The teacher chose someone Students raise their hand.

from the class.

Great job class, you all did

well.

F. Generalization

Settle down, class. Teacher, What is it, sir?

wants to ask something.

Did you enjoy our Yes, sir.

discussion class?

What was our lesson Addition and Multiplication of

for today? variables.

Then what is Student give their answer

exponents, variables,
and coefficients on
6x ?
5

Excellent class!

IV. EVALUATION
Give the answer of the following
1. 2 x 2+2 x 2
2. 5 x·5 x 3
3. 6 x 2 · x 4
4. 6 x +6 x
5. 3 x 2+ 2 x

V. ASSIGNMENT
Answer the following questions.
1. 6 x +3 x
2. 7 x 2 · 4 x 3
3. 7 x +4 x
4. 2 x 2+2 x 2
5. 2 x3 · 2 x 6
