INTRODUCTION:-
Kabaddi is an Indian game which requires
both power and skill for its play. It was
known by various names in various places.
For example, CHEDUGUDU OR HU-TU-
TU in Southern parts of India, HADUDU
(Men),
CHU KIT-KIT (Women) in Eastern
India and KABADDI in Northern
India. It is a simple and inexpensive
game and doesn't require a big playing
area or any playing equipment.
Regular Kabaddi tournaments are held
throughout the country.
HISTORY :-
Tukaram’s Abhang says Kabaddi was
played by our beloved God
“Krishna”. But according to other
legends, kabaddi originated in Tamil
Nadu over 4000 years ago.
Kabaddi has been a big part of the Indian
culture since the time of Mahabharata
Earlier this sport was played by princes in
order to display their strengths to the
princess or their would-be brides.

Some believe that kabaddi was invented in

the remembrance of Abhimanyu. One of
the major reasons behind developing this
sport was to develop defensive responses by
individuals against attacks by several groups.
One of the most interesting
things about Kabaddi is that it is
a sport where defense is done in
a group whereas offense is done
individually.
This sport is just not meant for
entertainment but is a synonym for
speed, fitness, thrill, etc. In the 1990s
Kabaddi became a part of the Beijing
Asian Games.

Despite the origin of the sport

being in India, the sport did not
receive its deserved respect and
popularity in India until the first
“Pro Kabaddi League” was held in
India in 2014.
AMATEUR KABADDI FEDERATION OF INDIA
(AKFI):-
The Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India
(AKFI) is the central institution to
administrate and promote Kabaddi in India. It
was established in 1973. Beside this, AKFI
aims at improving the standard of the sport in
the neighboring countries of India.
It also organizes international kabaddi tournaments
for both men and women in India. Along with it
sub-junior and junior nationals and zonal
competitions are also organized to promote the
game at the local level.

Mr. Janardhan Singh Gehlot is the current AKFI

President. He is also the president of the Asian
Amateur Kabaddi Federation (AAKF) and the
International Kabaddi Federation (IKF).
OBJECTIVE:-
The main objective of this game is to
grab points by raiding into the
opponent's court and touching as
many opponent players as possible
without getting caught on a single
breath . Each player, chanting “Kabaddi!
Kabaddi! Kabaddi” enters into the
opponent court and try to touch the
defense players nearest to him,
while the opponents make tactical
coordinated efforts to catch that
player.
RULES:-
1. The team that wins the toss shall have the
choice of the court of the raid. In second half the
court shall be changed.
2.Opponents must have 5 players to avail the
bonus points. If a player is out of court due to
some technical or punishment reason he/she will
be included in 5 players.
3.A raider shall speak soundly ‘kabaddi kabaddi’ in
the opponent court. After this, he must return to his
court immediately.
4. When entire opponent team is out and no one of
the opponents is entitled to be revived, they shall
score a ‘lona’ and 2 points shall be awarded.
5. Nails of the players should be properly
manageable.
6. Maximum of three players can generally be
substituted with the permission of referee
during the game.
7. Any player can use lobby only
during the struggle. If anyone uses
lobby otherwise, he will be declared
as ‘out’.
8. Rubbing of oil, cream, or
wearing of soft material on body is
not permitted.
9. It is compulsory to cross the baulk
line by every raider. If a raider does
not cross the baulk line he/she will be
declared as ‘out’.
NECESSARY SKILLS
A man needs skills to have mastery upon
techniques. There are broadly two categories of
skills that a kabaddi player needs to learn are
offensive skills and defensive skills.

For example, during a raid, a raider must try to

touch the antis with the maximum use of his
limbs. It will make easy for him and for his team
to score points.

Some touches that are legal in kabaddi are;

 Foot touch
 Toe touch Kabaddi 17
 Thrust
 Squat leg
 Kicks
 Touching of hand through upper limbs
GROUND:-

• The total length of the main court of Kabaddi is

13 meter and the height of the court is 10 meters.
• The total area of the court divided by the
middle line into two parts. These two parts are
the areas of two teams that are playing on it.
• Some small part of the width is used for
the Yellow lobby. The total width for the
defenders is 8 meter and length is 6.5 meter.
• Two other lines are present on both sides of the
court. One is the Walk line and the other is
Bonus line. The distance from the middle line to
walk the line is 3.75 meters.
