Types of Sources: Name: M. Sravya Sri Roll No.: 22R21A04A1 Branch& Sec: ECE-B

This document classifies and describes different types of circuit sources. It discusses independent sources, which are not affected by other circuit elements, including ideal and practical voltage sources and current sources. Dependent sources are also covered, which are controlled by another circuit element. Dependent sources are classified as voltage dependent voltage sources, voltage dependent current sources, current dependent current sources, and current dependent voltage sources. The key difference between independent and dependent sources is that independent sources deliver voltage or current independently of other parameters, while dependent sources have their voltage or current controlled by other elements in the circuit.

TYPES OF

SOURCES
Name: M. SRAVYA SRI
Roll no.: 22R21A04A1
Branch& sec: ECE-B
CLASSIFICATION OF SOURCES
 The sources re classified into 2 types :

1. INDEPENDENT SOURCE : An independent source is a source

that is not affected by any other circuit element. Examples of
independent sources include batteries and generators.
2. DEPENDENT SOURCE: A dependent source is a source that is
controlled by another circuit element. Examples of dependent
sources include voltage-controlled voltage sources and current-
controlled current sources.
INDEPENDENT SOURCE:
 Independent source is classified into 2 types:

 VOLTAGE SOURCE :A voltage source whose output voltage does not depend
upon the voltage or current of any other part of the circuit is known as an
independent voltage source.
1. Classification:
2. IDEAL VOLTAGE SOURCE : For ideal voltage source the internal resistance
should be 0(zero) and the condition is load voltage is equal to source voltage.
3. PRACTICAL VOLTAGE SOURCE :For the practical Volt source having small
internal resistance and condition is load Voltage is less than the source voltage.
2. CURRENT SOURCE: The type of current source whose output current does not
depend upon the voltage or current of any other part of the circuit is known
as independent current source.
• Classification :
1. IDEAL CURRENT SOURCE: For the ideal current source the internal resistance
should be infinity and the condition is loaf current is equal to source current.
2. PRACTICAL CURRENT SOURCE: For practical current source having high
internal resistance and the condition is load current is less than the source current.
DEPENDENT SOURCE :
 Dependent sources are those whose output voltage is governed by a voltage or
current in any other part of the circuit. Dependent sources are represented using
diamond shapes as shown in the figure below
dependent source is classified into 4 types:
1. VOLTAGE DEPENDENT VOLTAGE SOURCE: The voltage depends on some another circuit of the voltage
source.
2. VOLTAGE DEPENDENT CURRENT SOURCE: The current source is dependent on the some other circuit of the
voltage source.
3. CURRENT DEPENDENT CURRENT SOURCE: The current source is dependent on the some another circuit of
current source.
4. CURRENT DEPENDENT VOLTAGE SOURCE: The voltage source is depends on the some another circuit of the
current source.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
INDEPENDENT AND
DEPENDENT SOURCES:
INDEPENDENT SOURCE : DEPENDENT SOURCE:

 Independent source are those, whose value  the dependent sources are those, whose
of either the voltage or the current to be value of either the voltage or the current to
delivered is independent of any other be delivered is dependent or controlled on
parameter of the network. other parameters of the network.
