PRESENTATION OF OUTPUTS
Teacher’s Hour

Have you heard of the term thermal energy before? Objects possess thermal
energy due to the movement of their particles. Like any form of energy, it can be
transformed into other forms or transferred to other objects or places.

Heat, another form of energy, refers to thermal energy 'in transit'

or in the process of being transferred. It stops becoming heat when the transfer
stops.

Heat transfer is a phenomenon related to a change in temperature or a change in

the relative hotness or coldness of an object. Energy transfers naturally flow
from a body of higher temperature to a body of lower temperature.
There are three basic forms of heat transfer ,

namely:
1.radiation
2. conduction
3. convection
1.How is energy transferred between
objects or places?

2.How is this related to heat?

3. Do all objects equally absorb or emit

heat? And Why?
Methods of Heat Transfer

1. Radiation- the heat from the sun travels by waves through

space towards the Earth, which will absorb the heat, so the
Earth becomes warm. This process is called radiation.
Example, sunlight heating the earth and its object,
campfire,microwave warming food inside.
2. Conduction - is the transfer of heat by direct contact
between materials, such as metals or wood. The molecules in
the hotter material vibrate faster and collide with the colder
ones, transferring some of their kinetic energy. Examples ,
ironing of clothes, frying vegetables in a fan, the spoon in the
hot coffee.
3. Convection, process by which heat is
transferred by movement of a heated fluid
such as air or water. Examples , boiling
water, where hot water molecules rise to the
surface and cooler ones sink to the bottom.

Infer the conditions

necessary for heat
transfer to occur
OBJECTIVE:
1. DESCRIBE THE THREE METHODS OF HEAT
TRANSFER BY CONDUCTION (IN SOLID MATTERS),
CONVECTION (IN LIQUID AND GASEOUS
MATTERS) AND RADIATION
2. IDENTIFY MATTER CLASSIFIED AS CONDUCTOR
AND INSULATOR OF HEAT
Key Words
1. Conduction
2. Convection
3. Radiation
4. Conductor
5. Insulator

Thermal Energy
a form of energy

what is heat???
heat energy production starts
when thermal energy starts

Conduction

Conduction is a way
of transferring heat
through the contact
of objects.
Conductors of Heat
 Examples:
Insulators of Heat
 Examples:
The energy from the
object of higher
temperature is transferred
to the other object through
their particles that are
close or in contact with
each other.
Then the particles
receiving the energy will
also transfer the energy to
other places within the
object through their
neighboring particles.
During this process,
only the energy moves,
not the matter itself.
Example
Think of a metal spoon

champorado that you were
about to eat when you
suddenly remembered that
you had to do first a very
Heat
Conductivity
different materials transfer heat
faster than the other. good
conductors-fast transfer
insulators-slow or even prevent
transfer
Generally, metals are
good conductors of
heat.
Convection
transfer of heat by the
movement of particles.
happens only in fluids
(liquids and gases)
Radiation
refersto the emission of
electromagnetic waves
no particles are involved
can take place even in
vacuum.
All objects emit and
absorb radiation, known
as thermal or infrared
radiation.
The hotter an object is,
the more infrared
radiation it emits.
