Fact is something that has taken place
or known to have existed, which can be
validated with pieces of evidence.
A Fact:
 can be proven true or false through
objective evidence;
 relies on denotative language; and
 frequently uses measurable or
verifiable numbers, statistics, dates
and measurements.
Let’s analyze these
sentences!

 1. The report confirms the high risk of


virus in enclosed space.
 2. Scientists have recently discovered
the vaccines for COVID-19.
 3. According to the results of the tests,
she is negative to the virus.
 4. The investigation demonstrated that
rapid-testing is effective.
OPINION

 Opinion is defined as the personal


view or judgment about a subject,
that may or may not be
substantiated by the facts or positive
knowledge. In other words, an
opinion is an inconclusive statement,
used in subjective matters, which
cannot be proved true or false.
An Opinion:

 cannot be presently verified;


 relies on connotative language;
 can mean different things to different
people; and
 uses value judgment words and
comparisons such as “best,” “most,”
etc.
EXAMPLES OF OPINION:

 He claimed that taking lemon juice everyday


reduce the risk of virus.
 It is the officer’s view that the virus will end
next year.
 The report argues that UP’s COVID-19 forecast
is not true.
 Many scientists suspect that COVID-19 is from
the bat.

Matthew Vollbrecht
 In some ways Matthew Vollbrecht is
just like other boys. In other ways,
he is not. When Matthew was three
years old, he had a rare disease.
The disease caused him to lose his
eyesight. Being blind help Matthew
to discover his talents for music. He
learned that he can play a song on
the piano if he listens to it first. He
also learned that he loves to sing!
What Matthew likes best is
making people happy. He
does this by sharing his
musical talents. In one
year, Matthew performed
in over 100 concerts. He
even sang the national
anthem at a major
baseball game.
When Matthew grows up, he
plans to keep singing. He knows
there will be many jobs that he
cannot do. But he hopes he can
always entertain people. For that
reason, Matthew practices every
day!
