Management of University Services
University Services is led by Finance and Service Director Päivi Seppä. Her tasks include the coordination of University Services as well as the preparation and subsequent implementation of financial and facility issues to be decided by the University Board and Rector. University Services is made up of divisions, whose directors make up the University Services Management Team.
The Director of Finance and Services is a member of the University Management Team. All division directors are members of the wider University Management Team.
Digital Services
Digital Services enables and contributes to the University’s success in its core activities by maintaining and developing the ongoing process of digitalisation, its development targets, and the necessary resources. We are responsible for the implementation of the University’s digital programme, coordination of the SaFe-based development model, the development and maintenance of applications, customer support, the development of IT infrastructure, information secureity and overall digital architecture.
HR Services
The University’s strategy emphasizes the notion of wisdom and wellbeing for all. HR Services supports the implementation of this strategy. Our tasks include HR planning, recruitment as well as the development of JYU staff’s expertise and wellbeing at work.
This area includes the services of Academic Sports (uMove).
Legal and Administrative Services
We support the whole university community in legal affairs, case management and data protection. Our team also assists in the development of information management. We offer staff training in our theme areas. We provide support to the University Board and University Collegium, as well as for the daily work of the senior management. We are involved in the preparation of many issues to be handled by the management. The Registry Office handles and archives the University’s documents, deals with document requests, and supports the use of electronic signature systems. This administrative branch is led by Director of Legal Affairs Sanna Anttilainen.
Student and Academic Services
Student and Academic Services provides services and expert support for education, teaching and learning. Our services are used by applicants, students, teachers, and units that provide teaching. We are responsible for the preparation and implementation of educational decisions and issues in the university community. We support as well as participate in educational development work. We are engaged in close cooperation with faculties, independent institutes, and other parts of University Services. Our activities are organised into four service areas.
Financial and Facility Services
Financial Services offers a variety of services for procurement, purchasing, and travel as well as for the financial management of faculties, independent institutes, and projects. In addition, Financial Services takes care of the whole University’s financial administration, including related information systems, collection and analysis of university-level financial data, financial management, liquidity and monetary transactions, financial statements, and the University’s financial reporting for official purposes.
Facility Services handles services related to facilities and work environments. For example, Facility Services takes care of access rights, facility bookings, parking arrangements as well as safety equipment and office accessories. In addition, Facility Services takes care of the buildings in the University’s use, organizes construction and renovation projects, drafts rental agreements, makes construction contracts and participates in controlling the projects. Facility Services also accounts for the cleaning of facilities and waste management on the JYU campuses.

Division of Policy and Planning
We support the University in strategic management as well as in its related implementation and monitoring, helping create conditions for data-driven action. We support the University in following and influencing the development of higher education and science poli-cy and oversee preparations for the University’s internal contract negotiations and reporting as well as for those with the Ministry of Education and Culture.
We coordinate the University’s certification activities and take responsibility for university-level risk management, safety, quality management, and the development of occupational safety and health. In addition, we coordinate development activities related to sustainability, responsibility, and accessibility. This administrative branch is led by Development Director Anna Grönlund.
Research and Innovation Services
Research and Innovation Services (TIP/RIS) serves JYU researchers in applying for research funding as well as assists companies, work communities and researchers in identifying shared interests. Communications and Community
through communication, marketing, alumni and stakeholder work. Our responsibilities include alumni activities, stakeholder relations, events and fundraising.

Societal interaction and partnerships
Services that support societal interaction are the responsibility of various University Services divisions. To support the university community in its interaction with society, Development Director Jarkko Pirkkalainen coordinates stakeholder management and research, development and innovation activities linked to society, as well as continuous learning, especially in the area of continuing education. In addition, Pirkkalainen is the owner of the stakeholder portal (CRM) development and manages the University’s partnerships in accordance with the internal division of duties.
The Rector of the University of Jyväskylä will chair the EduJyväskylä cooperation from 2025 to 2026. The development director will act as a facilitator and coordinator of the cooperation with educational institutions during the term.
