MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Morehead State Rifle opened its 2024-25 season at the University of Kentucky Saturday, and while the Eagles did not defeat the Wildcats, head coach Alan Joseph's squad did have a number of notable performances in the season-opening competition.

Kentucky scored 4,721, while MSU finished at 4,637.

Junior Adrianna Beard led the Eagles in Air Rifle by carding a 591. Junior Hayden Bell, who just returned from the ISSF Junior World Chamionships in Peru, tied his personal best with a 577 in Smallbore. 

MSU also had several freshmen who saw their first collegiate action. George Kuhne fashioned a 589 in Air Rifle, while Chloe Shannon was close behind at 587.

Kuhne led the Eagles in total score as he registered 1160, including his AR total plus 571 in Smallbore. Bell was second in scoring with his 1158 as he notched a 581 in Air Rifle. Shannon finished at 1154.

Freshman Victoria Koenig also topped the 580 mark in Air Rifle with a 582, and freshman Haven Eastman was close at 579. 

In Smallbore, freshman Trey Myers' first action resulted in a 576. Sophomore Maria Koenig, Victoria's sister, rounded out the SB counters at 572. 

The Eagles continue their 2024-25 campaign next Saturday at former Ohio Valley Conference rival Jacksonville State.
