Statement of Purpose
Statement of Purpose
In the business world, the rear view mirror is always clearer than the windshield.
-Warren Buffet
Keeping the quote in mind, I wish to introduce myself as Vikas, a teenager with love for
experiencing a new challenge everyday and passion for the business world for the
dynamism it involves. Since, my adolescence days, I have been highly influenced by business
leaders like Warren Buffet and Bill Gates not because of the money they have but the value
they add by giving it to others reducing the inequity in the world. As a person, I am a natural
logical thinker, problem solver and a people pleaser and thus, I think that I am best suited
for the management world. As is the case I have tried to shape up my learning journey
accordingly. I have been a good student academically, having passed my 10th standard in
the year 2016 from PSEB Board with 70.9%. Consequently, I enrolled in Commerce stream in
2018 with 74.6% marks approximately. Additionally, I have also taken the PTE exam scoring
58 overall with no module less than 53.
Indian education system is well renowned the world over and is known for its top institutes
like IIT’s and IIM’s. The curriculum offered is very rigorous and enlightening but I have
always had a desire to study overseas since 8th standard because of the global factor an
overseas education gives you, opening up opportunities the world around. In lieu of my
desire of developing a global outlook and experience how things are conducted at the best
of levels in real, I now wish to pursue my higher studies overseas.
The world is as diverse as it gets and every country has something unique to offer with its
education system. As is the case, I started off with a deep research with regards to the
same, outlining the pros and the cons each one of them had to offer. I started off with short
listing popular destinations for studies abroad and came with a list comprising of Australia,
Canada, US and Germany as the most preferred ones. US being the super power it is and
home to the top universities globally was an instant hit in my eyes initially but on further
research very high fee structures, ambiguous visa regime and rising racism was huge turn
down. Canada with its accommodating nature, high student population from my country
and reasonable fee structure seemed like a good choice but its college centric education,
harsh weather, not so promising future job prospects turned me down. Germany seemed
very promising with its world renowned universities and education system but it’s all
together different culture and language made my parents not allowing me to opt for it.
Finally, the vouching from my cousin for the Australian education system, the countries high
quality educational infrastructure, diverse outlook with students from around the world
made Australia come out as the top contender. On weighing in all these aspects, I found
Australia best suited for my interests keeping in mind its leading education providers, highly
advanced educational curriculum, diverse learning opportunities with students from around
the world, peaceful environment and a very good return on a student’s investment. I find it
pretty amazing for a country with a population of just 25 million to produce a very high
number of Nobel Laureates, Olympic medalists and business leaders. Definitely the country
is doing something great and different, which makes me wish even more to experience the
same adding a bit of laurels to my profile. Thousands of international students from around
the world, amazing educational infrastructure, top ranked universities, most liveable cities
and a opportunity to be part of a very diverse population is what awaits a prospective
student in Australia and like any other student on this planet wish to experience the same.
Australia has more than 40 world renowned universities and most of them offer programs
with regards to business, thus, making it very difficult to choose one out of so many choices.
Keeping in view my academic profile, my fee paying capacity, employment prospects
ascertained after completing studies from a certain education provider, student reviews,
alumni profile, location and the teaching quality, I came up with a shortlist of UNSW, UOW,
CDU, UTAS. Before finalizing University of Tasmania I also Checked other universities in
Tasmania and I came to know that there is only one Public University in Tasmania and there
are some Private colleges as well but I do not want to study from there, So considering
these points I selected University of Tasmania (UTAS) which has been in forefront of higher
education for over 125 years. The University of Tasmania is Australia’s fourth oldest
university. UTAS has 38,000 students, including 6,500 international students from over 100
countries. UTAS is committed to the creation and preservation of knowledge as well as
excellence in teaching and research. In the prestigious Academic Ranking of World
Universities (ARWU), the University of Tasmania jumped eight places to be ranked 284th
internationally in 2017.They have diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate courses in
many popular disciplines. UTAS is a medium sized university offering the benefits of smaller
classes, personalized attention, and good access to supervisors and administrative staff.
There are a wide range of services and facilities, both academic and recreational, available
to all students. Students at UTAS are well supported by our friendly and accessible staff,
resulting in high course completion rates and an enjoyable study experience. UTAS has a
generous scholarship program for international students and course fees are very
affordable. The cost of living in Tasmania is lower than most other cities in Australia and the
smaller size of Hobart and Launceston means it is easy get around and there is a sense of
community. The affordability, friendly people and stunning natural scenery offers our
students a great study environment and lifestyle.
