Graphing Quadratic Functions

Locate the following in the graph:


V(h,k) is the vertex of the parabola ( highest or lowest point of the graph).
Name F is the focus of the parabola .
VF is the distance from the vertex to the focus.

Grade/Section LR is the latus rectum which passes through the focus with end points on the parabola.

Find the quadratic function , given that the vertex is the point( -2 ,1) and the focus is the
point ( -2,3).

Draw the parabola.

Solution:

The focus of the parabola is the point ( 2,-3) and the directrix is the line y=-5

Solution: Activity:
