The learners demonstrates an understanding of underlying principles in installing wiring devices.
B. Performance The learner independently installs wiring devices for floor and ground fault current interrupter.
Standards
C. Learning 1. Identify the tools and equipment needed in replacing a regular convenience outlet with a GFCI outlet.
Competencies / 2. Enumerate and understand the procedures in replacing a regular convenience outlet with a GFCI
Objectives Outlet.
3. Draw and interpret a schematic diagram using the GFCI outlet.
4. Value the importance of safety in doing any electrical work.
II. CONTENT Replacement of Regular Convenience Outlet with Ground Fault Current Interrupter (GFCI) Outlet.

IV. PROCEDURES The teacher is able to perform the following routine activities:

A. Preliminary A. Prayer
Activities B. Checking of attendance

B. Developing
The teacher ask the student about Replacement of Regular Convenience Outlet with Ground Fault
Activities
Current Interrupter (GFCI) Outlet.
Motivation
C. Establishing This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help you master on how to replace
Purpose for the of regular convenience outlet with ground fault current interrupter outlet. The scope of this module
Lesson permits it to be used in many different learning situations.
D. Presenting
Examples/instance In GFCI or Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter is used in place of a regular wall outlet or duplex receptacle. It
s of the new lesson. is normally found throughout the house in places such as bathrooms, kitchens, garages, outdoor areas
and other locations where damp conditions do or could exist. GFCIs make sure that all of the electric
current going out of an electrical outlet goes back in the wall socket and not going through a person to
make a path to (electrocution).GFCIs are very important in both home and the workplace. Particularly in
places such as kitchen and bathrooms where water is prevalent, it helps stop the current to flow in such
places and avoid undesired accidents. GFCIs can also help to prevent electrocution when an electrical
leak is present. They also are very effective at preventing electrical fires that can result from the shorting-
out of a circuit.

Procedures
1. Prepare all tools and materials needed.
2. Wear Appropriate PPE.
3. Turn off the power at the circuit-breaker box.
4. Remove the outlet cover plate and the screws holding the outlet in place. (Fig. A)
5. Disconnect the wires from the outlet.
6. Separate the wires from the box into two pairs. One set of wires will be the line, or power supply. The
other set will be the load, which carries power to additional outlets on the same circuit. A GFCI outlet,
properly installed, will protect all the outlets on the load side.
7. Make sure that the wires are completely separated from one another (Figure B), then turn on the
power back at the circuit breaker box. Use the circuit tester to determine which set of wires carries the
power. Turn off the power.
8. Connect the power-supply wires to terminals marked line and the load wires to the terminals marked
load. Connect the white wires to the silver screws and the black wires to the brass or gold screws (Figure
C). Connect the bare ground wire to the green screw.
9. Put the outlet back into the box. Screw it into place, and then attach the cover plate.
10.Turn the power back on at the circuit breaker box

Safety Rules and Practices during Laboratory Work

1. Observe proper handling of tools and equipment.
2. Always check the materials to make sure that they are not damaged before installing.
3. Shut off power supply before undertaking the job or installing electrical fixtures.
E. Discussing New Connection of GFCI in electrical wiring is like a normal outlet that we have in our house. The only
Concepts and difference of GFCI in ordinary convenience outlets is that GFCI has a separate circuit to detect ground
Practicing New Skill faults and interrupts the flow of current
1. Activity Directions: From the schematic diagram shown above (Figure D), complete the table by enumerating the
step-by-step procedure on how to wire “One Bulb controlled with a single pole switch with GFCI”.
