This document provides information about identifying constellations and their characteristics. It includes objectives, directions for activities, and a quiz. The objectives are to describe constellations and their origins, identify some in the northern and southern hemispheres, and locate star clusters and bright stars. Activities include naming, explaining, and drawing constellations. The document defines constellations as groups of stars that appear to form a pattern but are not physically close, and provides other details about their formation and historical uses.

OBJECTIVES
At the end of the session, the learners should be able
to: • describe a constellation and its origin; • identify some constellations observed in the northern and southern hemisphere and; • Locate some star clusters and identify some bright stars in the constellations. DIRECTIONS: BASED ON YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING, DESCRIBE THE FOLLOWING IN A HUMAN ACTION.
• Brightness • Color • Surface temperature • Size • Mass ACTIVITY
Title: Name, Explain and Draw
RUBRICS •Earth rotates on its axis, this makes most constellations appear to rise in the east and set in the west during the night. • There is a group of stars that appear in the sky all night long and all year long. It seems that these stars do not rise and set, but circle the Earth’s North Pole each night. These stars are called circumpolar. •Constellations group of stars that form a pattern in the sky •The shapes you see all depend on your point of view. •Stars in a constellation are NOT close to each other, but when viewed from Earth they seem to be grouped together. •There are 88 accepted constellations listed by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) •During ancient times, constellations were used for navigation and to tell stories. The constellations had uses in ancient times. They were used to help keep track of the calendar. • A group of stars forming a recognizable pattern that is traditionally named after its apparent form or identified with a mythological figure.
