ABSRACT
In this a design project, analysis and design of a municipality office
building is carried out.
The proposed building in this project is appropriately planned using
NBC guideline.
The load necessary for the modeling is referred from IS875 part 1&2.
The structural analysis of the building model is accurately modeled in
STAAD PRO.
Then the design is made using the prepared excel sheets.
The structural drawing clearly detailing the reinforcement are also
generated with help of AUTOCAD.
In order to compete in the ever growing competent market it
is very Important for a structural engineer to save time.
As a sequel to this an attempt is made bto analyze and design
a municipality office building by using a software package
STAAD pro.
For analyzing a Municipality office building one has to
consider all the possible loading and see that the structure nis
safe against all possible loading condition
MUNICIPALITY OFFICE BUILDING:

A municipality is basically the response of the.

state government to the need for certain public services
(i.e., waste disposal, police and fire protection, water
supply, health services) in addition to what is available from
the county or other local governments in the area.

PARTS OF BUILDING

A building can be divided into two parts

Substructure

Super structure
SUB STRUCTURE
The part of building constructed beneath the ground level
is known as sub structure.

SUPER STRUCTURE

DESIGN
DESIGN OF SLAB

Assuming overall depth D as 150 mm and an effective cover of 20mm.

Effective depth=150-20=130 mm
Calculation of effective span:

Lx=3.3=4300 mm, ly=5300 mm

Ly/Lx=5300/4300=1.23<2

Hence, it is two way slab.

Load calculation:

1. Self weight=25*0.15*1=3.75 KN/m^2.

2. Live load=3 KN/m^2.
3. Floor finish=1KN/m^2.
Total load=7.75 KN/m^2.
wu=1.5*Total load=1.5*7.75
wu=11.625 KN/m^2.
Moment coefficient:
Dx=0.093,dy=0.055
Mx=dx*wu*Lx^2
=0.055*11.625*(3.3)^2
=11.822 KNM
Check for effective depth:
dreq =g^(1/2)my/0.138 fckh
=g^(1/2)11.822*10^60.138*25*1000
=58.68 mm
58.68<dprov
Hence, the provided 130mm effective depth is safe.
Ast calculation:
Mu=0.87*fb.Ast*d*(1-fy.Ast/bd.fck)
11.882*10^6=0.87*500*Ast*130*(1-500Ast/1000*130*25)
11.882*10^6=56550 Ast*(1-0.000153 Ast)
11.882*10^6-56550 Ast+8.7 Ast^2=0
Ast^2-6500 Ast+1.365*10^6=0
Ast=217.5 mm^2
Use 12mm dia bars,
Spaning =(3.14*12^2/4*Ast)*1000
=(3.14*12^2/4*217.5)*1000
=510 mm
Provide 12 mm dia bars @ 300 mm c/c spaning. Same us use 12 mm dia bars,
Spaning =(3.14*12^2/4*215)*1000=520
Check for min Ast:
(0.12/100)*1000*150=180 mm^2<217.5 mm^2
Ast for min Ast:
11.773*10^6=0.87*500*Ast*130*(1-500 Ast /1000*130*25)
Ast =215 mm^2
Check for shear:
Vu=(Wu*1)/2
=(11.625*4.3)/2
=24.99 KN
=25 KN
Tv=Vu/bd=(25*10^3)/(1000*130)=0.2 N/mm^2
Pt=(100 Ast)*bd=(100*217.5)/(1000*130)=0.208
Tc=0.301 N/mm^2
Tv=Tc
Hence, it is safe.
DESIGN OF BEAM:

Depth of beam (D) provided =450 mm

Assume
effective cover (c)=30 mm
Effective depth of beam (d) =450-30
d = 420mm
width of beam = 300 mm
Maximum bending moment (M) = 70.77kNm
Check for depth:
Mu = 0.138fckb bd^2
=g^(1/2)70.77*10*/0.138*25*300
D(req) =261.48 mm
= 420 > 261.48
Hence, safe.
The section is over reinforced section.
Area of reinforcement:
Mu=0.87.fy.Ast.d[1-(fy. Ast / fck .bd)]
70.77*10^6=0.87.500* Ast*270[1-(500 Ast/25*300*270)]
7-0.77^ * 10 ^ 6 = 117450Ast(1 - 0.002Ast)
70.77 *10 ^ 6 = 117450Ast - 29Ast ^ 2
Ast²-4050 Ast+2.440*10°=0
Ast=736.34 mm²
Provide 16mm diameter bars.
ast=(3.14*d²)/4=(3.14*16^2)/4
= 201.06mm ^ 2
Number of bars= Ast/ast
=736.34/201.06
=3.5= 4 nos = 4 numbers
Provide 4 numbers of 16mm dia.bars.
Check for shear:
Vu = wl /2 = 177.14KN
Tv=Vu/bd
=(177.14*103)*(300*270)
Tv = 2.18N /mm^ 2
Pt = 100Ast / bd
=(100*736.34)*(300*270)
=0.90
Tc = 2.7N/mm^2
Tv<Tc
Hence, safe.
Sr=(0.87*Ast*fy)/(0.4 b)
=(0.87*500*201.06)/(0.4*300)
Sr = 257.3 =0.75d
Sr = 257.3 >202.5
Provide 2 legged 8mm dia bars at 270mm c/c spaning.
DESIGN OF FOOTING:

P =697.29
Size =450mm×480mm
Fck =20
fy =415N/mm^2
Solution:
add 10% ofextra for soil pressure
P=766 kN
Area of footing = total load (p)/SBC
Area =4.27 m^2
Now for square footing
b=(4.27)^1/2. =2.06 m
Therefore,provided a square footing of size
A=2.1 m×2.1 m
Net upward pressure
Po=w/B^2=766/2.12=361 KN
Depth of footing basis of bending moment
The maximum bending moment act as a phass of
Column and its given by
M= PoB/8(B-b^2)^2
=361×2.06/8(2.06-0.42)^2
=34.56
=34.56×2.19
=74.46 kNm
Mu. =1.5×74.46 = 111.98 kNm
Depth required
D. = (Mu/0.138fck B )^1/2
Depthrequired = 250 mm
d = 250 mm
Provide 15 mm cover
D = 250 + 50 =300 mm
Adopt 400 mm As effective depth and Provide 50 mm cover
d = 400 mm, D = 400+80 =480
Reinforcement
Mu = 0.87fy Ast d [1-(fy Ast /bd fck)]
=1624.12 mm^2
Provide 20mm dia bar @ both direction
Ast = 314 mm^2
No of bar= 10 Nos
Spacing = 350 mm
Ast prov = 1720mm^2
Provide 10 mm/ 20 mm dia bar @ 350 c/c.
