The Morehead State Men's golf team finished 12th out of 15 at the Cullan Brown Collegiate held on the 7,280-yard, par 71 Lexington Country Club course hosted by the University of Kentucky.
Sophomore Remy Stalcup paced the Eagles' effort with rounds of 75-76-79 for a 230 total and a T-43 finish. Junior Logan McCormick finished two shots back at 232 (T-50). As a team, the Eagles shot rounds of 311-307-312 for 930 strokes, placing them 12th in the 14-team field. Â
Senior Nolan Piazza bounced back from a 78-83 start, firing a 74 in the final round to finish at 235 (T-61). "Nolan played a fantastic round today that was close to being even better," said Morehead State head coach Matthew Martin. Â
Conditions were challenging at the Lexington Country Club for the tournament. The opening round saw cool, breezy weather that, coupled with a firm and fast golf course that made scoring extremely difficult. There were only three sub-par, and four even-par rounds recorded by the 83 players in the first two rounds. Â
The pace of play was slow; only a handful of players were able to finish their second rounds due to darkness suspending play. The field averaged 76.76 over the first two circuits. Conditions were no more conducive to scoring on day two with the field averaging over 77 strokes on the round.
"This will be the most difficult setup we will see all season," said Martin. "If we learn the appropriate lessons, we will absolutely benefit from it down the road," he said.Â
Kennesaw State took team honors, shooting 881 over the three rounds. Â Individually, Kennesaw State's Claes Borregaard and Andrew Ferworn of North Alabama shared medalist honors with an aggregate score of 218 (+5).Â
Morehead State will continue their fall season next week at the Pinetree Invitational in Kennesaw, Georgia. Â
