CHAPTER FOUR
WORKING EXPERIENCE
4.1 INRODUCTION
An important stage in one's academic and professional development is industrial training, which
serves as a link between theoretical information learned in the classroom and practical
application in real-world work settings. My time spent as an intern at the [Company Name]
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Department was a priceless learning
opportunity that not only advanced my technical knowledge but also gave me a deep
understanding of the dynamics of contemporary corporate IT operations.
I had the honour of serving as an intern at Corporate Affairs Commission, a reputable company
recognised for its dedication to innovation and technology, which houses a thriving ICT
Department. Utilising cutting-edge technologies to improve productivity, security, and data
management, this department plays a key role in leading the business towards operational
excellence. The department is more than just a group of IT experts; it is a well-organized team
that constantly adjusts to the rapidly changing technological environment.
My industrial training's main goals inside the Corporate Affairs Commission ICT Department
were varied. Among them were
gaining practical experience in a corporate IT environment, and using and refining my skills in
real-world circumstances.
learning from seasoned IT pros who act as mentors and advisors and share knowledge about
industry norms and best practises.
taking part in practical projects and initiatives that solve the technology needs and difficulties of
the company.
My goals for this industrial training programme were to finish as a skilled IT professional with a
solid foundation in both practical knowledge and a comprehensive grasp of the complex
operations of an ICT Department in a corporate environment.
This industrial training report is organised to give a thorough and sequential description of my
internship experiences. It is separated into a number of sections, each of which focuses on
various facets of my journey. Among these sections are:
Detailed descriptions of the tasks, obligations, and projects I was given throughout my
internship.
4.2 PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED
The experience of going through industrial training in the Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) Department at Corporate Affairs Commission was revolutionary, interspersed
with opportunities for progress and unanticipated difficulties. The time period was full of
chances for knowledge application and skill growth, but it was also filled with challenges that
deepened my experience and improved my problem-solving skills. In this section of the report,
I'll go into detail about the issues I had during my industrial training.
Network connectivity issues were one of the biggest difficulties I encountered while working in
the ICT Department. These problems varied from sporadic internet access to recurrent network
failures. As a result, there were delays in the workflow of personnel in several departments,
which frustrated them and reduced their productivity. First-line support and resolving these
connectivity problems were among my responsibilities. In order to successfully complete this
assignment, I had to quickly pinpoint the underlying reasons of network issues—which
frequently involved problems with routers, switches, or internet service providers—and put
suitable fixes in place. In order to reduce downtime and restore network stability, I had to
improve my problem-solving abilities and learn how to multitask.
In the current digital era, the significance of data security cannot be understated. In the course of
my industrial training, I came across serious data security issues. Malware infections,
unauthorised access to private data, and potential data breaches were among these worries. Data
and system security for the company became a primary issue. My responsibilities in this situation
included developing security procedures, monitoring network traffic, and training staff on data
security best practises. To meet this challenge, it was essential to have a thorough awareness of
cybersecurity, the capacity to foresee future attacks, and the ability to put proactive measures in
place to protect the company's data infrastructure.
4.23 Integration Challenges
The Corporate Affairs Commission ICT Department was in charge of managing a broad range of
software programmes and hardware setups. The difficulty of ensuring smooth interoperability
and integration across these technologies was considerable. The difficulties with integration
varied from problems with software programmes not communicating well to problems with
synchronising hardware components. In order to overcome these obstacles, I had to thoroughly
grasp the company's technology stack, collaborate closely with several IT teams, and conduct
methodical integration problem-solving. This experience sharpened my problem-solving abilities
and gave me new perspectives on the challenges of managing a technologically diverse
environment.
Another difficulty I faced was the lack of resources, which included hardware shortages and
budgetary restrictions. These limitations frequently caused challenges when attempting to
replace or upgrade out-of-date equipment, resulting in inefficiencies and decreased production.
Creating budget allocation ideas and arguing for the purchase of necessary resources were part of
my responsibility in resolving these challenges. Through this challenge, I learned the value of
resource allocation in IT management, the value of encouraging innovation in the search for
economical solutions, and the value of developing strong business justifications for technological
expenditures.
During my industrial training, I faced a sizable difficulty with network infrastructure. The
organization's ICT Department was in charge of managing a complicated network that linked
numerous offices and distant workers. These network difficulties included:
Network Congestion: During peak hours, the network frequently faced congestion, which slowed
data transfer and decreased worker productivity.
Users from many departments reported sporadic connectivity problems that prevented them from
accessing crucial resources and programmes.
Security worries: Maintaining network security and defence against potential cyber threats was a
constant problem that called for regular awareness and observation.
Data silos: Isolated data repositories made it difficult for departments to share information
effectively, which hampered teamwork and decision-making.
Version control: Because different departments had different demands and update preferences,
managing software versions across the organisation proved to be difficult.
Compatibility testing involves determining whether software programmes are compatible with
one another and collaborating with suppliers to find solutions.
Implementing data integration strategies can help departments' data become more unified and
efficient.
4.27 Legacy Software Compatibility
Dealing with old software applications that were still in use within several departments presented
a significant additional issue. Compatibility concerns with more modern hardware and operating
systems were caused by these out-of-date systems. When interacting with these legacy
programmes, employees frequently crashed and had interruptions in their workflow.
It was my responsibility to find and put into action solutions to ensure the efficient operation of
these legacy systems. This task required a thorough understanding of historical technologies,
virtualization methods, and workarounds for software compatibility. In addressing this problem,
I discovered how crucial it is to strike a balance between the need for technology changes and
the preservation of essential business processes.
The issues of data security and compliance demanded constant vigilance. The organisation
handled private client information as well as proprietary data, making data security a top priority.
Compliance with data protection laws made the situation more challenging.
I was entrusted with carrying out routine security audits, putting encryption methods into place,
and making sure that data processing complied with legal requirements. To overcome this
obstacle, it was necessary to implement cutting-edge security solutions, educate staff members
about data security best practises, and stay current with changing compliance needs.
Another difficulty I had was managing user requests and support tickets effectively. The
business's IT environment was complex and diverse, which led to a large number of support
requests. Prioritisation and excellent organisational abilities were required to strike a balance
between responding to urgent difficulties and long-term IT project planning.
I worked to construct a more effective ticketing system, establish a clear methodology for ticket
classification and escalation, and create a knowledge base for commonly occurring problems in
order to address this challenge. My time management, multitasking, and user-centric support
skills improved as a result of this experience.
Change Management
As the ICT Department underwent numerous technology upgrades and procedure enhancements,
change management proved to be a considerable difficulty. Employee resistance to change was
frequent, and communication breakdowns frequently led to misunderstanding and dissatisfaction.
I was given the responsibility of supporting change management initiatives, which included
creating training materials and leading informational sessions. In order to overcome this obstacle,
it was necessary to have the ability to clearly express the advantages of change, respond to
employee concerns, and encourage a favourable attitude towards technology improvements.
During my industrial training, managing my time and balancing my task were a constant
struggle. The ICT Department managed a diverse range of activities, from continuing assistance
to the execution of significant projects. Strong organisational abilities were required to manage
deadlines, prioritise activities, handle urgent situations, and concentrate on long-term initiatives.
I learned the value of time management and task prioritisation in the quick-paced world of IT by
tackling this problem. It needed the capacity to quickly switch attention between different things
and adjust to shifting priorities.
In the parts that follow, I will go into more detail about the exact approaches and solutions used
to deal with these extra difficulties while also considering how these experiences have affected
my professional growth.
The regular hardware failures that Corporate Affairs Commission's ICT department experienced
posed a sizable difficulty. These failures, which interfered with regular business operations,
included server and hard drive crashes. I was in charge of diagnosing, fixing, and doing
preventative maintenance on hardware.
Policy Adherence
Making sure that everyone followed the company's IT regulations and security procedures was
another significant difficulty. Employees occasionally disregarded security precautions or
unintentionally broke rules, putting the company in danger. Conducting security awareness
training, keeping an eye out for policy infractions, and monitoring and enforcing IT policies were
all part of my job description.
Effective communication abilities, the capacity to inform and involve employees in security-
related issues, and the ability to adopt tactics for policy enforcement without limiting production
were required to overcome this difficulty.
A reoccurring issue was managing software licencing and making sure that licencing agreements
were followed. To make sure the company was not infringing on licencing agreements, the ICT
Department had to traverse challenging software licencing rules. If you don't, you can face
financial penalties and legal repercussions.
My responsibilities included conducting software audits, keeping track of licences, and verifying
adherence to the conditions of the software providers. It took careful record-keeping, in-depth
knowledge of licencing agreements, and preventative measures to avoid non-compliance
difficulties to successfully tackle this difficulty.
I implemented a network monitoring system that allowed for real-time tracking of network
performance and immediate alerts in case of issues. This proactive approach enabled us to
identify and address connectivity problems before they disrupted operations. Additionally, I
worked on optimizing network configurations and collaborating with the network engineering
team to upgrade critical network infrastructure components. These measures significantly
improved network reliability and reduced downtime.
A project involving virtualization was introduced by the Company to deal with this problem. We
segregated legacy software from the main system by building virtual environments for it, which
fixed compatibility problems. This strategy avoided problems with more modern systems while
allowing departments to continue utilising legacy software. It also decreased system crashes and
increased the overall stability of the system.
I contributed to improving the organization's data security procedures. For sensitive data, this
involved deploying cutting-edge encryption algorithms, performing security audits, and creating

employee security training courses. In addition, I helped develop procedures for data
classification and access control as well as ensure compliance with data protection laws. These
steps greatly enhanced data security and assisted the business in remaining compliant.
4.4 CONCLUSION
My industrial training experience with the Corporate Affairs Commission ICT Department was a
pivotal period in my academic and professional growth. It provided me with a distinctive

CHAPTER FIVE
5.1 INTRODUCTION
I had a transforming and rewarding experience during my industrial training as an intern in the
Corporate Affairs Commission Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Department.
I've had the chance during this training term to actively engage in a dynamic, real-world IT
environment in addition to applying theoretical knowledge. This section of the report serves as
an introduction, summarising the important features of my journey, from the lessons discovered
to the real-world difficulties encountered and overcome.
5.2 SUMMARY
I became familiar with the nuances of a corporate IT environment during my time working in the
ICT Department of Corporate Affairs Commission. I had the honour of working with seasoned
experts who freely contributed their knowledge and thoughts. An in-depth grasp of the duties and
responsibilities within the department was provided through this experience, which also served
as a profound and immersive educational opportunity.
I ran into a number of difficulties during my internship. Despite being challenging, these
obstacles fostered innovation and original problem-solving. The challenges included poor
network connectivity, compatibility with legacy software, data security and compliance,
overloaded help desks, and vendor management. To properly address each issue, proactive
solutions and the use of strategic thinking were required.
In spite of these difficulties, I worked hard to come up with creative answers. I solved network
concerns and compatibility difficulties by putting in place network monitoring systems and
virtualizing legacy applications. I started security audits and encryption procedures in the area of
data security. The help desk's effectiveness was increased with the implementation of a thorough
ticketing system, and vendor relationships were strengthened with better communication and
negotiation.

professional growth. Information technology is always changing, therefore a commitment to
lifelong learning is necessary. The staff can stay current with the newest market trends and
technology through training programmes, workshops, and online course access, ensuring they
