the job through practical application. One way to expose students to a variety of job
environments is through On the Job Training, which allows them to apply the concepts and
calculations they have learned in the classroom to real-world situations. Students benefit from
gaining applicable information and skills through real-world experience in a work environment.
OJT is crucial since it not only helps students learn about their desired careers, but it also
exposes them to the realities of the workforce. The real work associated with the course that the
students are enrolled in will be presented to them. Additionally, it makes it possible for those
without any expertise to work while learning. Through on-the-job training, a trainee can put what
he has learned in school into practice and learn more about his chosen area. It aids in the
trainee's competency development. Of course, a pupil will be able to do tasks properly once he or
she is proficient enough.
One becomes more professional when interacting with people thanks to this training.
Following the program, the learner will be equipped with the skills necessary to manage difficult
situations and interact with coworkers in a polite and effective manner. In addition, he will have
strong social and collaborative skills. OJT helps students who are completing their training at a
company by improving their critical thinking skills and discipline. He will be better able to weigh
relevant information and make wise decisions.
A suitable on-the-job training course helps in preparing future professionals for their
positions. Even the smallest things that the students learnt during their on-the-job training can be
used in their current jobs. Pupils will receive social as well as academic instruction. They won't
have any issues working or interacting with people in the future. Additionally, it allows the
trainee to get the skills required by the business he wants to work in while immersing himself in
his chosen subject of study and experience. When working with knowledgeable employees, one
may see firsthand how the task is completed correctly.

In addition to providing work experience, on-the-job training introduces the learner to actual
professionals and people in a range of positions within the organization, from high to low. The
student will be able to adapt to the attitudes and personalities of others. Work and seriousness are
necessary for on-the-job training. The OJT is a valuable tool for preparing for the next phase of

Bureau of Philippine National Police

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is the primary law enforcement agency in the
Philippines tasked with ensuring peace and order, preventing and controlling crimes, and
maintaining public safety and security throughout the country. Established in 1991 through the
merger of the Philippine Constabulary and the Integrated National Police, the PNP plays a crucial
role in upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights and welfare of Filipino citizens.

History

Spanish Colonial Period - During the Spanish colonial era, law enforcement in the Philippines was
primarily the responsibility of the local authorities and military forces. The Guardia Civil, established in
1868, was the primary law enforcement agency tasked with maintaining peace and order in urban areas.

American Colonial Period - With the arrival of American colonial rule, significant changes were made to
the structure of law enforcement. In 1901, the Philippine Constabulary (PC) was established as a national
police force under the supervision of the United States Army. The PC played a crucial role in maintaining
peace and order throughout the country during the American colonial period.

Post-World War II Era - After gaining independence from the United States in 1946, the Philippine
Constabulary continued to function as the primary law enforcement agency of the Philippines. In 1975,
President Ferdinand Marcos established the Integrated National Police (INP) by merging the Philippine
Constabulary with local police forces. The INP was responsible for maintaining peace and order at the
national and local levels.

Creation of the Philippine National Police - In 1991, as part of efforts to reform the country's law
enforcement institutions, President Corazon Aquino signed Republic Act No. 6975, which created the

Philippine National Police. The PNP was established as a civilian national police force separate from the
military, with the aim of enhancing professionalism, accountability, and public trust in law enforcement.

Modernization and Reforms - Since its establishment, the PNP has undergone various modernization
and reform initiatives to strengthen its capabilities and effectiveness in combating crime and maintaining
public order. These efforts have included improving training standards, enhancing equipment and
technology, and implementing community-oriented policing strategies.

Challenges and Achievements - Over the years, the PNP has faced numerous challenges, including
corruption, internal conflicts, and the threat of terrorism and organized crime. However, it has also
achieved notable successes in addressing these challenges and collaborating with international partners
to combat transnational crimes.

Present Day - Today, the Philippine National Police continues to play a vital role in ensuring peace and
security in the Philippines. With a workforce of dedicated officers and personnel, the PNP remains
committed to upholding the rule of law, protecting human rights, and serving the Filipino people with
integrity and professionalism.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is the primary law enforcement agency in the Philippines

and security throughout the country. Established in 1991 through the merger of the Philippine

and protecting the rights and welfare of Filipino citizens.
Lapu-Lapu Hero - The great Filipino hero of Mactan, the prototype of the best and most noble in Filipino
manhood who is the symbol and embodiment of all the genuine attributes of leadership, courage,
nationalism, self-reliance and a people-based and people powered community defense. The benevolent
and heroic warrior who derived added strength from a cohesive, determined and loyal people is today a
fitting symbol and a prototype as well of people power to preserve our values, customs, traditions, way of
life and the rule of law thru a solidly community-based police system. Lapu-Lapu also personifies for us
today civilian constitutional authority.
Laurel - Green Laurel with 14 leaves, symbolizes the 14 Regional Commands. It is also a symbol of the
honor, dignity and the privilege of being a member of a noble organization where the call to public
service is par excellence a commitment to public trust.
Shield - The symbol of the Philippine Constabulary, the first National Police by virtue of Organic Act No.
175, enacted by the Philippine Commission on 18 July 1901. The Philippine Constabulary for the close to
90 years of service to the nation has performed with honor, professionalism and courage. The PC has
carved out a large part of the glorious pages of Philippine history, as attested by its proudly and
deservedly garnering 86 of the 92 "Medals of Valor" the highest honor that a grateful Filipino nation can
bestow on its gallant sons in the service of the Republic. Most appropriately therefore, the Philippine
Constabulary became the nucleus of the Integrated National Police in 1975 to nurture the then embryonic
concept of the nationalization of the country's local police forces.

the National Police must enforce the law and maintain peace and order with professionalism, zeal and

Service • Honor • Justice - Added distinct ideals for the officers, men and women of the PNP to insure
efficiency, integrity, cohesiveness, camaraderie and equanimity to enhance community acceptance and
support to attain its mission of peace keeping and law enforcement.
Sun - Symbolize the flowering, maturing and ultimate realization of the glorious evolution of the PC/INP
into a National Police Organization - "national in scope and civilian in character" - as enshrined in the
1986 Constitution. The Traditional light rays which represents the fightingest provinces whose ideals of
courage and patriotism the members of the National Police must possess.

them as a student work dream to be part of them overall of the week and the last week the time we spend

is worth it.

LEARNINGS

We've gained a deep appreciation for the significance of teamwork in ensuring the safety of
society, the community, and the officers. We've observed how each officer plays a unique role and how
essential cooperation and clear communication are for achieving success.

We've also come to understand the importance of adaptability and quick thinking. In emergencies,
situations can evolve rapidly, so it's vital to make decisions swiftly and confidently. Maintaining
composure under pressure and trusting our instincts and training have proven to be crucial.

As we move forward, we aim to carry these lessons with us, continuing to value teamwork, embrace
flexibility and quick thinking, and serve others with dedication and selflessness. Our experience as OJTs
at PNP has been a privilege, and we are grateful for the opportunity to learn. The bravery and
commitment of police officers, who put their lives on the line daily for the safety of the community, are
truly inspiring.

C O N C LU S I O N

This on-the-job training has been an invaluable first step toward my goal of becoming a police
officer. It has inspired me to approach my studies with greater diligence and seriousness. The experience
encouraged me to put extra effort into my coursework and deepened my motivation to pursue a career in
law enforcement.

Although the training period was brief, it was profoundly impactful. It boosted my confidence and
laid the groundwork for becoming a dedicated public servant. As a Bachelor of Science in Criminology

student, this experience had a significant influence on me. I felt rejuvenated and learned the importance
of being diplomatic in both action and communication. The training reinforced that it is crucial to not
only know what you're doing but also to love it.

As a student, I am committed to learning as much as possible, staying inspired, embracing my

chosen path, and striving to do my best with a positive mindset. I have realized the need to focus more on
my studies and approach everything wholeheartedly.

Moreover, the satisfaction of achieving something and receiving genuine recognition from others
was truly heartwarming during my training. This experience has motivated me

Bureau of Fire Protection Seal

Bureau of Fire Protection - is the government body in the Philippines responsible for the
provision of fire services. It is under the jurisdiction of the Department of the Interior and Local
Government.

The real objectives of the Bureau of Fire Protection are symbolized by the design elements,
which also include the National Flag, the picture of Lapu-Lapu, the black shield, the BFP motto, the
two branches of laurel leaves, the firefighting weapons and equipment, and the Malta Cross.

The Malta Cross - also known as the knighthood emblem, is a badge of honor, bravery, and
pride that symbolizes protection. It also serves as a representation of the Fire Service's values,
which include preserving life and property and putting out dangerous fires.

The Black color - symbolizes all aspects of the nation's fire safety administration, while
the Shield stands for both protection from damage and a firefighter's shield.

Save Lives and Properties – the BFP motto.

Laurel Leaves - The 14 regions where the BFP was acknowledged as a distinct Bureau
within the DILG are represented by the Two Branches of Laurel Leaves.

The Badge - also features the primary firefighting tools and equipment of the BFP
embedded on each part of the cross.

The Image of Lapu-Lapu - Who was the first Filipino to lead the nation in repelling the
Spanish conquistadors is a symbol of courage, bravery, and heroism. Lapu-Lapu's background also
features the American flag.

The Three Stars – resembles the three major island groups: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

was more to this station's understanding, so I seized the chance to study and now, as an intern, I feel like
a part of them.

WEEK 3

This is a very challenging and memorable day for me because we have a lot to learn from them on
our last day of duty. Even though we took many cautions from them, they never got tired of teaching us.
They always give us advice on how to improve ourselves and give our bodies more strength. On this last
day, they try to give us a verification exercise to see who is more willing to fight for our dreams.

LEARNINGS
Every day of my OJT on the BFP, we learned how to become diligent workers who can fulfill my
dream by doing things like exercising in the morning to strengthen and condition our bodies and minds.
We also learned how to communicate with people professionally, just as we do with our summer OJT
participants. I will never forget my immersion experience. we are very enjoyed and we didn't forget the
golden rule that we said to us.

C O N C LU S I O N

My dream of becoming a fire officer someday is one I will pursue with the support of this
summer's on-the-job training. I was motivated to study more diligently and seriously after attending this
session. We were encouraged to put more effort into our academic pursuits. We were encouraged to
aspire to be like them one day since we were provided insights into the duties of a fire officer at the
location where we completed our training.

Even though my training was brief, it was nevertheless a very significant time. The training
increased my self-assurance and laid the groundwork for me to one day be a valuable public servant. As a
student pursuing a bachelor's degree in criminology, it had a profound impact on me. We felt truly
rejuvenated. We gained experience acting diplomatically in both.
I've learned from this program how important it is to know and enjoy what you do. For the time
being, as students, all we can do is study everything we can in class, find inspiration, embrace the road we
are on, and give everything we do our best effort while maintaining an optimistic mindset. We came to

the realization that we needed to sharpen our academic concentration and provide everything we had.

We experienced this emotion during my on-the-job training. It is also immensely reassuring to

know that you have accomplished something, and it is even more so when people are extremely proud of
what you have accomplished. It inspired me to be more determined and competitive in everything I do as
a student today and as a professional someday.

Bureau of Jail Management and Penology

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) is a government agency in the Philippines
responsible for the safekeeping, development, and rehabilitation of inmates who are temporarily
confined in city, district, and municipal jails.

The BJMP offers a range of programs and services aimed at addressing the needs of inmates, such
as education and skills training, livelihood projects, health and medical services, counseling and
psychological support, and religious and spiritual activities. These initiatives are designed to
promote rehabilitation, reduce recidivism, and facilitate the reintegration of inmates into society
upon release.

History

Ancient Times: The use of imprisonment as a form of punishment dates back to ancient civilizations
such as Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Greece. However, imprisonment in these early societies was often used
as a temporary measure, such as holding individuals awaiting trial or debtors until they could repay their
debts.
Medieval and Early Modern Period: During the Middle Ages, imprisonment became more common as a
form of punishment for various crimes, alongside corporal punishment and public executions. Prisons
were often used to hold individuals accused of crimes while awaiting trial or punishment, and conditions
in these early jails were often harsh and unsanitary.
The Rise of the Modern Prison System: The modern prison system began to take shape in the late 18th
and early 19th centuries, particularly with the advent of the penitentiary system. Influenced by
Enlightenment ideas of reform and rehabilitation, prisons such as the Walnut Street Jail in Philadelphia
and the Auburn and Sing Sing prisons in New York were designed to isolate prisoners from society,
provide opportunities for reflection and penance, and instill discipline through strict routines and labor.
Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries: The 19th century saw the widespread adoption of the
penitentiary model, with many countries establishing their own systems of incarceration. However,
conditions in many prisons remained harsh, and concerns about overcrowding, disease, and abuse were
common. In the 20th century, efforts were made to improve prison conditions and introduce more
rehabilitative programs, although the rise of mass incarceration in response to social, political, and
economic factors led to new challenges and criticisms of the prison system.
Contemporary Issues: In the 21st century, imprisonment continues to be a primary form of punishment
for a wide range of crimes, although there is growing recognition of the need for alternatives to
incarceration, as well as concerns about racial disparities in sentencing, the impact of mandatory
minimum sentences, and the effectiveness of rehabilitation programs. Efforts to reform the criminal
justice system and address issues such as prison overcrowding, recidivism, and the rights of prisoners
remain ongoing challenges.

Overall, the history of imprisonment as a form of punishment reflects changing attitudes towards crime,
punishment, and justice, as well as ongoing debates about the role of prisons in society and the need for
more humane and effective approaches to addressing criminal behavior.

VISION

A highly capable agency dedicated to global best practices and standards in jail management.

MISSION

We provide humane safekeeping and developmental opportunities for persons deprived of liberty
as our contribution to a safe, just, and prosperous Philippines.

Bureau of Jail Management and Penology -The seal of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology
(BJMP) in the Philippines is rich in symbolism, reflecting the mission, values, and functions of the agency.
While the precise meanings of the elements may vary slightly, here's a common interpretation

Shield: The shield shape of the seal represents protection and defense, indicating the BJMP's role in
safeguarding the rights and welfare of inmates and maintaining security within jail facilities.
Laurel Leaves: Laurel leaves often symbolize victory, honor, and achievement. In the context of the BJMP
seal, they may represent the agency's commitment to upholding justice, maintaining order, and achieving
excellence in its operations.
Olive Branches: Olive branches traditionally symbolize peace and reconciliation. In the context of the
BJMP seal, they may signify the agency's efforts to promote rehabilitation, conflict resolution, and the
restoration of individuals within the criminal justice system.
Scale: The scale is a common symbol of justice, representing fairness, balance, and impartiality. In the
BJMP seal, it underscores the agency's commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice
is administered equitably for both inmates and society.
Sword: The sword symbolizes authority, strength, and the power to enforce the law. In the context of the
BJMP seal, it represents the agency's role in maintaining order, ensuring compliance with regulations,
and protecting the public from criminal activities.
Chain: The chain often symbolizes restraint or confinement. In the BJMP seal, it may signify the agency's
responsibility for the safekeeping and custody of inmates, as well as its efforts to prevent escape and
maintain security within jail facilities.
Words: The words "BUREAU OF JAIL MANAGEMENT AND PENOLOGY" and "Republic of the Philippines"
provide clear identification of the agency and its jurisdiction.

On the third week of my On-the-Job Training this is the last day of our duty and since it is only a

learned a lot and we never forget the experience that they give to us.

The training I received at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Baliwag was an enriching
experience. Each day presented new learning opportunities and allowed me to gain practical insights into
the duties of jail officers. I became well-acquainted with their daily responsibilities and adapted to the
work environment and colleagues.

During my three weeks there, I acquired valuable knowledge relevant to my course. Working as a
trainee at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Baliwag, I developed resilience and learned the
importance of completing assigned tasks accurately and efficiently. I gained an appreciation for the
significance of seemingly simple tasks and understood that hard work and smart work are essential for
success. Balancing these qualities will be crucial for my future career, helping me manage tasks
effectively while optimizing my time.

This training underscored that on-the-job experience is not merely a requirement but a vital
opportunity to demonstrate and refine my skills in a professional setting. It allowed me to interact with
the staff members of the Bureau, and working alongside jail officers was both a privilege and an
inspiration. Their encouragement and dedication motivated me to excel in my studies and strive for
excellence.

My time at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Baliwag was both remarkable and
meaningful. Although my internship has concluded, I look forward to the possibility of returning in the
future, not as a trainee, but as a jail officer.

CONCLUSION

Experience is the most effective teacher, and this on-the-job training has been instrumental in advancing
my goal of becoming a jail officer. It has significantly motivated me to approach my studies with greater
dedication and seriousness. The encouragement I received during this training has inspired me to invest
more effort into my academic work.

Although the duration of my training was brief, it was profoundly impactful. It boosted my confidence
and laid a strong foundation for me to become a valuable employee in the future. As a Bachelor of Science
in Criminology student, this experience was transformative, offering me a renewed sense of purpose and
a clearer understanding of professional conduct and communication.

As a fourth-year criminology student, the insights and knowledge gained from this on-the-job training
have been and will continue to be immensely beneficial. It provided me with a realistic glimpse of the
professional world and a preview of what lies ahead after graduation.
