How to graph Linear Inequality?

In graphing linear inequality in two variables, there are steps to be followed.

EXAMPLE: Given : x + y < 6

STEP 1: CHANGE THE INEQUALITY INTO AN EQUATION.

x+y<6  x+y=6
STEP 2: GET THE X-INTERCEPT AND Y-INTERCEPT USING THE EQUATION, x + y = 6.
Let y = 0 to get the y-intercept. Let x = 0 to get the y-intercept.
x+y=6 x+y=6
x+0=6 0+y=6
x=6 y=6

x-intercept: (6,0) y-intercept: (0,6)

STEP 3: PLOT THE X-INTERCEPT AND Y-INTERCEPT IN THE CARTESIAN PLANE.

STEP 4: INTERPRET THE GRAPH

Every ordered pair within the shaded region excluding (6,0) and (0,6) will satisfy the inequality x+y < 6.
OTHER GRAPHS OF THE INEQUALITIES

2) x + y > 6
STEP 4: INTERPRET THE
GRAPH
STEP 1.
Every ordered pair
x+y>6  x+y=6
within the shaded region
excluding (6,0) and (0,6)
STEP 2.
will satisfy the inequality
Same solution with
x+y > 6.
x + y < 6. Therefore,
the x-intercept is (6,0)
and y-intercept is
(0,6).

3) x + y ≤ 6 STEP 4: INTERPRET THE

STEP 1. Every ordered pair
x+y≤6  x+y=6 within the shaded region
including (6,0) and (0,6)
STEP 2. will satisfy the inequality
Same solution with x+y ≤ 6.
x + y < 6. Therefore,
the x-intercept is (6,0)
and y-intercept is
(0,6).

STEP 4: INTERPRET THE GRAPH

Every ordered pair within the shaded region excluding (6,0) and (0,6) will satisfy the inequality x+y < 6.

4) x + y ≥ 6
STEP 4: INTERPRET THE

STEP 1.
Every ordered pair
x+y≥6  x+y=6
within the shaded region
including (6,0) and (0,6)
STEP 2.

Same solution with
x+y ≥ 6.
x + y < 6. Therefore,
the x-intercept is (6,0)
and y-intercept is
(0,6).
