7/27/2011 - Shelf Season Continues ...

On Wednesday, another picturesque shelf cloud rolled across the NIU campus. The non-severe storms that produced the shelf cloud were less than impressive on radar, but made up for it visually. Below is a panoramic, a few stills, and an animated gif -- all shot around 9 am.

Early morning storms produced a picturesque shelf as it traversed northern Illinois today. A couple animated gifs give you the perspective from NIU's campus: animation 1 and animation 2.

7/21/2011 - NIU Lightning

Some weak thunderstorms moved through the DeKalb area late evening Thursday producing a nice electrical display. We'd been suffering a short-term drought and heat-wave that was remedied a bit by this storm and subsequent convection Friday morning (post to follow). Below are a few pics, and animated gif, of the unorganized thunderstorms as they moved across the NIU campus.
