QUICK GUIDE
ALTERNATIVE LEARNING SYSTEM
REGION X – NORTHERN MINDANAO
INITIAL VERSION
2020-2021
This Quick Guide is hoped to assist you as we learn the new ways that we introduce in our region so
we can give the best for our learners. I humbly anticipate your understanding to embrace and
dutifully perform these changes. In doing so, we are all in the same page in our implementation.
This school year is challenging, but with these challenges we become better.
CONCEPTUAL BASIS
It is important that we have a structure in everything that we do for a system to
work. The CIA model emphasizes how the three should be aligned in our
implementation in ALS. In all our innovations, we are guided by this model.
The LAS must be COPIED by the learners from top to bottom. Writing can trigger
more neural activities which means better retention of concepts. It can also
develop academic stamina and discipline.
LAS Reproduction
Reproduction activities are done by the implementers in school-based or
community-based learning centers. There has been tremendous support given
to ALS in every SDO. Non-DepEd partners are likewise very supportive to us.
An example here is the ILA 1.1. This is the first ILA to be used regardless of the
month. As you know it in ALS, every day is enrolment day. So at any time, we
already have a learning plan to any enrollee starting with ILA 1.1, then 1.2, and
so on.
Our giving of LAS is progressive in quantity. We will start with three per week to
help our learners adjust with this modality.
For the month of October, we emphasize basic health and survival skills for our
learners to be responsive in this time of pandemic.
ALS Life Skills are distributed in November and May. Supposedly longer months
are intended for the life skills modules, but we want to prioritize longer sessions
for the six learning strands to cover as much competencies for the learner.
The BEST preparation for our learners to pass the A&E test is the full acquisition
of the competencies of the ALS curriculum.
By default, each LAS is worth 10 points such that the perfect score is indicated in
the MLP already. To get the percentage score, the total score is divided by the
perfect score. Then, the quotient is multiplied by 50 and added with 50. If the
learner got 30 over 60, the percentage score is 75.
These will be appreciated both by the implementer and the learner because the
learning process is transparent and systematic.
The LAS, ILA, and MLP will be placed in a LONG PLASTIC ENVELOPE. It is the
same envelope for delivery and retrieval. This will serve as the work folder
already.
Presentation Portfolio
Our EPSAs are busy evaluating the presentation portfolios at the moment in
preparation for the A&E readiness test (AERT).
This is a good footing for the next batch of portfolios, for school year 2020-2021.
We know already what to include in the portfolio.
While the work folder contains ALL the outputs, the presentation portfolio
includes SELECTED entries only.
Portfolio Checklist
Our basis in assessing the presentation portfolio is this draft copy of the
checklist criteria prepared by the ALS Task Force. Basically, the items to be
placed in the portfolio should satisfy this checklist.

Important Reminder
Be reminded that our ILA 1.1, MLP 1.1, and LAS for the first set are distributed
on or before September 28. This is true to all SDOs as ordered by our regional
director, Dr Arturo Bayocot.
