BOOTABLE DEVICE
1
A boot device is any piece of hardware that contains the files
required for a computer to start. For example, a hard drive, floppy disk drive,
CD-ROM drive, DVD drive, and USB jump drive are all considered bootable
devices. However, unless the necessary boot files are stored on the drive,
diskette, or disc, the computer cannot boot from that device.

What's An ISO?
Any file that ends in .iso is an exact copy of a disk. It's a virtual copy
of a CD or DVD, with the same file structure and the same data. ISO copies
are referred to as "images" of the original. The acronym ISO comes from the
name of the organization responsible for creating industry standards---
International Organization for Standardization.
Yes, that should be IOS, but they figured ISO was better across all
languages as ISO is derived from the Greek isos, meaning "equal".
Bootable
Any media, whether it's a hard drive, USB flash drive, CD, or DVD
is bootable if you can use it to boot your computer. In this case, we are
creatingportable media which boots from the USB drive or disc, instead of
the computer's hard drive. When installing Windows, the media you use
must be bootable.

This tool can do three things:
The first two options on the list require simply following instructions
inthe tool, and you won't need to deal with an ISO file at all.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
You can get a Windows 7 ISO direct from Microsoft, but you will need
your 25-character product key to start the download. You can find your
Windows Product Key either with the original installation media or in an email
from Microsoft from when you originally bought it.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7
When you purchased Windows, you will have received either a 25-
character product key or a digital license. You can install an operating
system without either of these, but you won't be able to activate it.
If you lost your product key, there are ways to find it again. The Magical
Jelly Bean KeyFinder has a free version which will display your CD Key as
shown above.

WinISO Main Interface
Open the Windows 7 iso file you’ve downloaded. WinISO can detect
the image file is bootable iso or non-bootable automatically.
Check your ISO file for the word "non-bootable," which indicates
that this Windows 7 ISO lacks boot information. However, WinISO can
assist you in converting it to a Windows 7 bootable ISO.
You can't add any boot information to the Windows 7 ISO, though.
Varying discs have different boot information depending on the content.
As a result, you must locate the correct Windows 7disc boot information.
The boot information is contained in a small.bif image file. Here, you'll
find iso boot information for Windows 7 Ultimate Version (32bit & 64bit).
Here you can free download Windows 7 boot information:
Click "Bootable" on the toolbar after saving the windows 7 boot image
file, choose the first option "Set boot image," a window will appear, and then
choose the boot information you have and click "Open." On the view frame,
you will discover the word “bootable” at this point.
6 NegOr_Q3_CSS11_Module3-4_V2
Step 3: Save
As a last step, you must save the new ISO file you created. Prepare a
blank disc and click "Burn" on the toolbar, then select this Windows 7
bootable iso file. Then select "OK." The detailed steps can be found here.

What is It
Note that not every ISO file has boot information. On the left of WinISO,
you can see whether the ISO image files have bootable information or not.
We'll teach you how to easily create a bootable DVD in this tutorial. As
an example, consider the "Non-bootable" ISO file. First, download and install
WinISO for free.
After the installation, run the software. You can see the main
interface as below.
Open an ISO file which is non-bootable ISO. Then set the boot image
file. Tips: There are 2 ways to set the boot information with WinISO.
13 NegOr_Q3_CSS11_Module3-4_V2
Usage 1:
Click "Set Boot Image" from the toolbar, and a "select a boot
image file" dialogue will display on your screen. Select the boot image
file after that.
Usage 2:
Prepare a blank DVD and ensure that you have a DVD Driver on
hand to insert it. Then, on the toolbar, click "Burn." Select the DVD driver
and the bootable ISO you just received. Now that everything is in order,
click "Burn." A few minutes, you will get a bootable DVD.

More things you can do:
Extract boot image: The boot information can also be extracted from
bootable DVD or ISO files using WinISO.

WinISO can assist you in resolving the issue. Simply select "Bootable"
from the toolbar, and a drop-down list will appear. When you choose
"Clear Boot Information," you'll be presented with a non-boot image file,
similar to the original ISO.

Note: This tutorial assumes you already have the ISO file. If you don’t
have the ISO file, you can download it from the developer website. Also,
make sure that the USB drive you are using is at least 8 GB and has no
important data in it.
2. When you plug in the USB drive, it will appear in the top drop-

“Select” button.

your choice.

3. From the Partition Scheme drop-down menu, choose "MBR," and from
the Target System drop-down menu, choose "BIOS or UEFI." Select the
"Add fixes for ancient BIOSes" checkbox under the "Advanced Drive
Properties" section if you're trying to use this bootable USB drive on an
older system.
4. (Optional) Using the "Volume Label" option, you can alter the USB
drive name. Additionally, under “Advanced Format Options” make
sure that the “Quick Format” tick is set. Quick Format formats the
drive faster by omitting the check for faulty sectors, as the name
implies.
22 NegOr_Q3_CSS11_Module3-4_V2
6. Rufus may prompt you to download extra files depending on the ISO
file. Rufus, for example, prompts you to download the latest version of
Syslinux in order to make a bootable Ubuntu disk. Rufus will take care
of everything if you hit the "Yes" button.
7. Select the recommended "Write in ISO image mode" option in the next
question, then click the "OK" button. You may also receive a drive format
warning — click the "OK" option to dismiss it.

How does USB Boot work?
USB Boot works in the same way as a floppy disk did in the past to
start a computer. It's usually used to rebuild an operating system from
the ground up, or to repair, recover, or install it. You'll need to build a
bootable USB drive first in order to do a USB boot.
