Lab Report Title: Basic Operations of MS Word

Introduction

Microsoft Word is a powerful word processing application widely used for creating,
editing, and formatting documents. This lab report will explore fundamental operations in
MS Word, including bullet points, page margins, page size, table creation and
manipulation, finding and replacing text, inserting comments, adding page numbers and
borders, and applying watermarks.

Objectives

The primary objectives of this lab are to:

1. Become familiar with the MS Word interface and basic tools.


2. Learn how to create and format bullet points.
3. Adjust page margins and size for document layout.
4. Create, edit, and format tables within a document.
5. Utilize the Find and Replace function for efficient editing.
6. Insert comments for collaboration and feedback.
7. Add page numbers and borders to enhance document organization.
8. Apply watermarks to protect or identify documents.

Procedure

1. Creating Bullet Points

• Open a new MS Word document.


• Type the following text:
o Item 1
o Item 2
o Item 3
• Select the text and click the Bulleted List button on the Home tab.

2. Adjusting Page Margins and Size

• Go to the Layout tab.


• Click the Margins button and choose a desired margin setting (e.g., Normal,
Narrow, Wide).

• To change the page size, click the Page Size button and select a size (e.g., Letter,
A4).
3. Creating Tables

• Go to the Insert tab and click the Table button.


• Select the desired number of rows and columns for the table.
• Type data into the table cells.

4. Editing Tables

• To delete a table cell, right-click on the cell and select Delete Cells.
• To insert a table within a table, select a cell, go to the Table Tools Layout tab, and
click Insert Table.
• To erase a table, select the entire table and press Delete.
5. Finding and Replacing Text

• Go to the Home tab and click the Find & Replace button.
• In the Find what field, enter the text you want to find.
• In the Replace with field, enter the replacement text.
• Click Replace All to replace all occurrences.

6. Inserting Comments

• Select the text you want to comment on.


• Go to the Review tab and click the New Comment button.
• Type your comment in the comment box.

7. Adding Page Numbers and Borders

• Go to the Insert tab and click Page Number.


• Choose a page number location (e.g., bottom of the page, header).
• To add a page border, go to the Design tab and click the Page Border button.
• Customize the border style, color, and width as desired.
8. Applying Watermarks

• Go to the Design tab and click Watermark.


• Choose a built-in watermark or create a custom watermark.
• Adjust the watermark's transparency, size, and position.

Conclusion

This lab report has demonstrated the fundamental operations in MS Word, including
creating and formatting text, working with tables, finding and replacing text, inserting
comments, adding page numbers and borders, and applying watermarks. By mastering
these skills, users can effectively create professional and well-formatted documents using
MS Word.
