INDIANAPOLIS – Butler took a 95-44 loss to Creighton on Wednesday night to open a window of three games in five days for the Bulldogs.
Trinity White led BU with 12 points, three rebounds and two steals. Emma Ronsiek was the best player on the floor in the match-up. She scored a game-high 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting.
How It Happened
Creighton used a 6-0 scoring run early in the contest to open up a 10-2 advantage. Butler responded with back-to-back 3-pointers from
Tenley Dowell and
Zoe Jackson to close the gap to 12-8, but the 'Dawgs struggled over the final 4:31 of the first quarter giving Creighton a 24-11 lead after ten minutes.
Quarter number two opened in similar fashion with Creighton outscoring Butler 10-4 over the first five minutes. The Bluejays led 34-15 with 4:55 to play before the half. Ronsiek was the driving force with 10 points in just 11 minutes of action. She ended the first half with a game-high 17. As a team, Creighton shot 56 percent from the field in the first half and 41 percent from 3-point range (7-17).
Trinity White was the first Bulldog to hit double figures. Her steal and score near the midway point of the third gave her 11 of Butler's 29 points. Butler put up 15 points in the third quarter, but would trail the Bluejays 69-34 heading into the fourth.
Creighton stayed aggressive in the fourth quarter to win that stretch 26-10. Every Bluejay that saw the court on Wednesday night scored at least two points.
