DEFINITION OF POSITION
Participates in the execution of the Association’s overall professional learning and educational services
activities including program development, quality control and program oversight.
The Educational Services Executive shall share the responsibility for ACSA’s learning and teaching focus and
provide direction to ACSA staff, Board and members.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - May include, but are not limited to, the following:
Responsibilities
• Designs and implements new professional learning programs responding to the changing needs of
school leaders.
• Supports ACSA’s involvement in providing assistance to schools and districts identified as program
improvement and/or high priority.
• Advocates on behalf of all ACSA members.
• Consults with districts, charters and members about issues.
• Serves as committee liaison to assigned ACSA councils and/or committees.
• Works with ACSA members and staff to design new programs.
• Formulates and recommends to the Senior Director for approval or submission to the Board, ACSA
positions regarding issues related to the leadership of learning and teaching.
• Assists the Senior Director in presenting educational services programs and needs of ACSA members
to the ACSA Board as well as city, district, county and state officials.
• Evaluates, on a continuing basis, the evolving professional learning and support needed and desired by
school administrators; supervises the development of long and short range plans for achieving the
ACSA Board goals and provides the ACSA Board with timely, well-substantiated reports and
recommendations for direction of ACSA’s educational services activities.
• Assists districts and ACSA educational services staff with professional learning planning.
• Directs development and monitoring/revision of the budget for programs assigned.
• Acts as liaison with community organization – such as, but not limited to: educational businesses,
charter schools, McRel, WestEd.
WORKING CONDITIONS
• Sitting for long hours, sitting or working on computer keyboard.
• Some travel (up to 40%), occasionally overnight.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
• Principles and practices of organization, administration and personnel management.
• Budget management principles and practices.
• Trends in education.
• Professional development practices.
• Educational policies and practices.
• Professional learning program design, in person and online.
• Adult learning theory.
• State and federal school and district accountability requirements.
• California Education Code.
• Labor, employment relations and case law.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Powerpoint).
• Effective time and project management techniques.
• Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
Ability to:
• Design and conduct professional learning programs for certificated and classified school
administrators.
• Develop and manage the resources, timelines, and objectives of a project.
• Apply expertise to the assignment at hand.
• Collaborate with fellow staff.
• Multi-task and work with time sensitive deadlines.
• Write comprehensive, concise and technical information in a persuasive and informative manner.
• Establish and convey goals, objectives, and positions.
• Supervise, evaluate, and motivate subordinate staff.
• Speak effectively before large audiences.
Experience:
• Six years of progressively responsible administrative experience of California public schools including
professional learning program design, responsibility for K-12 curriculum, instruction and staff
development.
• One of the successful applicants must have recent experience in an urban setting and/or a central
office position working with curriculum, instruction, and accountability issues.
Training/Education:
• Must possess a valid California Administrative Services Credential. Master’s degree required.
• Must have successful administrative experience. Principalship and central office level experience
preferred.
