BUSINESS LETTERS AND MEMOS

EMPLOYMENT DOCUMENTS

APPLICATION LETTER

An application letter, also known as a “cover letter,” is sent with your resume during the
job application process.

A letter adds more personality to your application by providing more details about your
background and interest in the position.

RESUME

A resume is a formal document that a job applicant creates to itemize their qualifications
for a position.

A resume is usually accompanied by a customized cover letter in which the applicant

expresses an interest in a specific job or company and draws attention to the most
relevant specifics on the resume.
CURRICULUM VITAE

A curriculum vitae is an exhaustive listing of the significant achievements in your career.

This includes education, research, work experience, publication, presentations, and
anything else you’ve done in your professional life.

With the CV, on the other hand, you don’t take off and add details as you go along. You
always include everything in a CV.

CURRICULUM VITAE VS RESUME

Resume means “summary”. In contrast, CV means “course of life.” the purpose of the
resume is to tailor your qualifications and experiences according to the specific
requirements of the job position.

The CV has a clear chronological order listing the whole career of the individual
(education, work experience, computer skills, awards, certificates, publications etc.)

A CV has no page limit (usually 4-5 pages), whereas a resume is kept short and brief
(usually 1 page).

RESIGNATION LETTER

A resignation letter is a document that notifies your employer that you are leaving your
job. It formalizes your departure from your current employment, and can be written as a
printed letter or an email message.
