An analogy is a comparison in which two
word pairs (4 words total) are paired
together through some type of
relationship or relating factor. It is a
statement of comparison between two
different ideas, things, or concepts.
o The term which means “relationship” is called an
ANALOGY.
o It is like a word puzzle.
o It always contains two pairs of words. It can be
abbreviated like stallion :mare :: man : woman
The single colon [:] represents the phrase “is to” and the
double colon [::] represents the word “as”.
o Thus, it reads, like a stallion is to mare as a man is to a
woman.
oAn analogy compares things with similar
features, often used to help explain
principles or ideas. The two things being
compared may be completely dissimilar
which still helps you understand something
about their relationship.
