Under U.S. Food and Drug Adminstration (FDA) rules for manufactured foods and the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), large animal feed is considered food (the feed animals consume affects the safety of human food).Under WSDA's Animal Feed Program and FDA's Animal Feed Regulatory Program (AFRPS), our laboratory is responsible for detecting prohibited material and pathogens (Salmonella) and E.coli (Escherichia coli) and aflatoxin in animal feed.

Raw and minimally processed pet foods are also tested for pathogens.
