David Dinkins was an elite running quarterback for the Eagle football team from 1998-2000. He was the first player in the NCAA to rush for 1,000 yards and throw for 1,000 yards in the same season, a feat he accomplished three times.

Dinkins led the team in scoring, touchdowns, rushing and passing yards from 1998-2000. He became the first individual in the NCAA I-AA division to throw for more than 5,000 yards (5,572) and rush for more than 3,000 yards (3,765). At the time of his induction, Dinkins held six MSU single game records, four season records, and five career records and led the team to a 27-13 record while at Morehead. He also won All-American honors from two different organizations. In addition to being inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame, Dinkins had his jersey retired on Oct. 15, 2010.

After his playing days at Morehead, Dinkins played two seasons in the National Football League (NFL) for the Buffalo Bills. He also played for the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe and for the Erie Storm in the American Indoor Football League (AIFL). With the help of Dinkins, the Storm finished with an 8-6 record in 2010, before losing to the Harrisburg Stampede in the playoffs.

Dinkins retired from football at the end of the 2010 season.  He is married to Montia Robinson Dinkins and is father to Breya, Zianne, and Zaire.
