Ron Gathright played basketball and football for Morehead State from 1968-70. He is remembered as one of the most versatile athletes in MSU history.
A native of Louisville, Ky., Gathright earned honorable mention All-Ohio Valley Conference honors in basketball and was selected Second-Team All-OVC in football twice. In three seasons with the basketball Eagles, he hauled in 649 rebounds which ranked 13th all-time on MSU’s rebounding list at the time of his induction. He averaged 9.4 points as a sophomore and 12.7 points a game for both his junior and senior campaigns.
Gathright made a name for himself during his junior season when he picked off six interceptions in 1969 and returned one of those for a touchdown. He picked off two more passes the following year as a senior.
