Tommy Gray

Tommy Gray played football for Morehead State from 1964-67. He also lettered in tack at MSU. He is known as one of the best athletes to ever wear an Eagle uniform.

Gray hit the national spotlight during his sophomore season. In 1966 he was named All-Ohio Valley Conference, Honorable Mention All-American and OVC Player of the Year. He was the leading rusher for MSU from 1965-67. Gray set numerous records for the football team and one record on the track.

The records that Gray set are as follows: best rushing average for a career (5.6 yards per attempt), most points scored in a career (172), most touchdowns in a career (28), best punt return average in a season (23.5 yards per return), longest fumble return (65 yards), longest fumble return for a touchdown (65 yards). His track record was for the fastest time in a 100-yard dash (9.3 seconds in 1967).

Gray was drafted in the National Football League 1968 draft in the eighth round by the San Francisco 49ers (207 overall pick).
