Mike Collins starred for the Morehead State Baseball team from 1964-67 where he was a three-time All-Ohio Valley Conference catcher. During his four seasons as an Eagle, Collins posted a career-average of .350 while also hitting 17 home runs.
Following his time at MSU, Collins perused a professional baseball career where he spent time with both the Phillies and Mets as a minor leaguer.
Collins later returned to his native Johnson County, Ky., where he became the head baseball coach at Johnson Central High School in 1981. From 1981-2004, "Coach Collins" accumulated 492 victories and led the Golden Eagles to four KHSAA 15th Region Championships while also being named the region's coach of the year five times.Â
Along with his coaching duties, Collins spent 35 years as an educator, serving as a teacher, guidance consoler, and administrator in the Johnson County School System.
Collins and his wife, Brenda, currently reside in Flat Gap, Ky.Â
